Envoys from Iran and six world powers met Thursday in Baghdad for a second day of talks on easing concerns about Tehran's nuclear programme, dpa reported. In the morning, Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeid Jalili met EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who heads the delegations of the group of six - the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China. After that, all sides met in a plenary session. The five permanent Security Council members and Germany on Wednesday presented a diplomatic proposal aimed at halting Iran's enrichment of uranium to a level of 20 per cent. They also offered cooperation on nuclear safety and other areas. Iranian diplomats were not satisfied with the proposal, as their aim in Baghdad is to achieve a lifting of sanctions. Western countries fear that the enrichment programme could one day be used to produce material for weapons, and that Tehran has been secretly developing nuclear weapons technology. Iran says it need nuclear technology only for peaceful applications.
