A US Airways flight en route from Paris to Charlotte, North Carolina, was forced to change course and land in the north-east state of Maine Tuesday, dpa quoted airline and US officials as saying. Eyewitnesses said a female passenger handed a note to a flight attendant indicating she had a bomb implanted in her body. Once the plane landed, authorities determined that there was no explosive inside the woman, CNN reported. Liz Landau, a spokeswoman for US Airways, told dpa that Flight 787 was diverted to the international airport in Bangor, Maine. The Boeing 767 was carrying 179 passengers and nine crew members, and was escorted by two US military jets until it landed in Bangor. Police met the airplane on the ground. "Out of an abundance of caution, the flight was diverted to (Bangor) where it was met by law enforcement," said Jonella Culmer, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration. The passenger who made the threat was reportedly a French citizen from Cameroon, who was travelling alone and without luggage.
