There are a total of nine girls' schools and colleges taking part with an age range from us young as 15 to around 22 years old. The entire conference is organized and run by the Officers of the DAHMUN Society and it was impressive to watch them in action. The opening of the session of the Committee for Human Rights was done with formal professionalism, ensuring that all the country delegates were present before proceeding with the session. The topic was: ‘Freedom of Speech – Social Media: A Constructive or destructive catalyst of change'. The delegates proceeded to voice their opinions on the nature of modern popular media such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as the brutality against citizens who have been part of the recent popular uprisings in some Arab and African countries. The conference continues on Thursday, ending with a celebratory lunch and presentation of awards.
