Prince Ahmad Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Minister of Interior, on arrival in Riyadh Tuesday night after heading the Kingdom's delegation to the meeting OF GCC Ministers of Interior. (SPA) ABU DHABI: The greatest threat facing the Kingdom and the Gulf region is terrorism, said Prince Ahmad Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Minister of Interior, at a press statement following the 12th Consultative Meeting which concluded in Abu Dhabi on Monday. He said the whole world is battling the scourge of crime and drugs. He said terrorism is a temporary phenomenon and prayed to Allah Almighty that it would be eradicated. Prince Ahmad condemned the terror attack in Morocco recently, describing it as unjustifiable. He said the perpetrators are insane and are being misled to cause security problems across the world. ?He said there is a reduced threat of terrorism in the Kingdom, stressing that whatever happens in this country also affects other Arab countries. In reply to a question, he said the Kingdom has proposed the creation of an international center to combat terrorism which could be stationed in Riyadh or elsewhere. About the Prince Muhammad Bin Naif Center for Advice, he said the facility has been established to give advice to deviants who joined terror groups and who are planning to repent. Asked about the impact on the region of the killing of Osama Bin Laden, he said he hoped that with his death evil would have been defeated. Prince Ahmad emphasized that Bin Laden had not held Saudi citizenship for years. He was evil to himself and to all Arab and Muslim countries. Prince Ahmad defended the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the Hai'a, and said recent investigations showed some staff may have overstepped their boundaries, but that this was not serious. “The investigations showed that there were some insignificant and trivial excessiveness in the performance of the Hai'a staff which can't be generalized. Being human beings there must be some mistakes. Nobody can claim that he is perfect so people should [not believe] these malicious rumors.” He said the Hai'a's work is based on the Holy Qur'an and that government cannot tolerate any deviation from these principles.
