MADINA: The case of a Raqi accused of sexually assaulting a woman was referred Monday to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution. The BIP, which received the case from police in Al-Uyoon, will refer the case against the Raqi, to the Shariah Court, which will issue Shariah verdict. A Raqi is a man who treats people by recitation of the Holy Qur'an. Security authorities in Madina had received a report from a man who said the Raqi sexually assaulted his wife while treating her for depression and psychological disorders. When the Raqi came and treated her for the first time, he told the husband that the woman needed treatment for a period of time, authorities said. After several sessions, one day the Raqi came to the couple's home; the woman told him that her husband was not there. And asked him to wait until he arrived or come back later, authorities said. The Raqi insisted on entering the house because, he said, he had appointments with other families and could not wait or return. The woman allowed him to enter and she lost consciousness after he recited some verses, authorities said. The Raqi exploited the situation and sexually assaulted her, which is when the husband returned home to find him committing the crime, according to authorities. The husband immediately telephoned security authorities who arrived and took the Raqi into custody, they added.
