Wurood International School's investiture ceremony.Al-Wurood International School welcomed new students to the school recently with ceremonies for the girls and boys sections. The student office bearers of the Students' Council for the academic year 2011 to 2012 took charge, led by the Head Boy Abraham P. Raynold and the Head Girl Ashily Joy. The Students' Council, which is run under the motto, “Of the pupils, by the pupils and for the pupils”, plays a vital part in carrying out activities at the school. The Students' Council consists of the Head Boy and Head Girl, Assistant Head Boy and Assistant Head Girl, sports captains, student editor, and the house captains of the Red, Blue, Green and Yellow houses. Together, they are responsible for the maintenance of discipline and other activities. In the ceremony organized in the boys' section, V. P. Mohammed Ali, Director of the school, focused on the responsibilities of students and how they could improve their leadership qualities. K. Rahamathullah, the principal, quoted the inspirational words of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India: “I can ... together we can … and the nation can achieve success.” He called on students to strive to do their best and to face up to challenges. Munawarunnisa Nazneen, a Saudi Gazette reporter, was the chief guest at the event. Dr. Sereena Jalaludeen, Vice Principal, also attended the function at the girls' section. Nazneen emphasized the importance of quality education and how extra-curricular activities are important for a child's over-all development. “Students are the building blocks of a nation and are the nation's future architects.” The guests of honor and the Principal handed over badges, sashes and flags to the student office bearers. They in turn pledged that they would be role models and uphold the school's honor. The Head Boy and the Head Girl also made speeches. The ceremony ended with the Saudi and Indian national anthems.
