Principal Saher Kamran hands the 1st position trophy to Nimra Fatma who argued in favor of the topic, ‘World of laborers is that of suffering'. Pakistan International School Jeddah (English section) celebrated the international Labor Day Saturday, Apr. 30, by organizing an Urdu debate competition on the subject ‘World of laborers is that of suffering' at its premises. 18 students from grades 9 to 13 participated in favour and against the motion and put their efforts to explain and prove their opinion with great fervor. The debaters supporting the motion underscored different examples of injustices from around the world and laborers and workers in the world are suffering. The students against the motion did not lack far behind and gave evidence and examples of workers' unions and names of organizations that are taking care of the workers' and laborers' rights and explained that the labourers of the 21st century are not persecuted anymore and they are very well aware of their rights. Those defending the motion, outnumbering those who argued against it, proved that though there are labor unions and organizations who are taking care of the rights of the workers and laborers, there is still a large number of laborers who are not getting enough money to feed their families and educate their children. “Poverty is stuck with downtrodden people like a cancer and killing them and undermining their social and economic status,” said Abdul Rafie Awan, the opening speaker in favour of the motion. Saher Kamran, principal of PISJ, initiated the competition by welcoming chief guest Qamar Siddiquee from the Pakistan consulate, and judges Amir Mohammed, the president of Pakistan Journalist Forum (PJF), Jamil Rathore, the secretary general of PJF. “Any institution will never have excellent status until and unless the students will learn not only from the basic curriculum but also from extra curricula activities. It is our mission to make our students beneficial nationals of the society. PISJ has the privilege and honor to promote not only curriculum activities but at the same time involve our students in extra curricula activities,” said Saher Kamran. Qamar Siddiquee appreciated the efforts of the school students and teachers, and congratulated Saher Kamran on conducting an excellent program. Jamil Rathore and Amir Mohammed also said that such programs give students the chance to polish their abilities and to understand the society and its problems. Such programs also give them chance to understand how to deal with the society and how to give respect to all the people of the society and not to look down on any one due to his occupational status. They also lauded the relevance of the topic and the comprehensive way in which the students dealt with it. “Students tackled the topic and Urdu language very nicely: the pronounciation and the way of speaking of all the students was excellent, although they're studying in an English-speaking school,” said Rathore. The winners were Hafza Khan on 4th position, Sana Farooque on 3rd, Sayed Omar Farooq on 2nd and the1st position was secured by Nimra Fatma.
