JEDDAH: Over 100 delegates from various schools and colleges are scheduled to take part in the second Model United Nations Society at Dar Al-Hekma (DAHMUN) conference here starting Monday. Dr. Abdullah Nasseef, President of the Muslim World Congress, will be the key note speaker at the event organized under the motto ‘Creating Future Leaders of the World.' The event is co-sponsored by Saudi Gazette. Model United Nations (also Model UN or MUN) is primarily an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda through seminars, discussions and conferences. MUN has been established by top universities and schools all around the world, including Harvard University and Chicago University. The DAHMUN was founded by Dr. Chaman Rahim in 2007. She saw the vision of this society to make the students politically informed and transform them into more confident and progressive members of the society and she has successfully taken DAHMUN to unbelievable heights during the past four years. DAHMUN members have organized several successful seminars and discussions on burning issues such as Iran's nuclear program and ban on Blackberry. The members have not only shown commendable achievements within Saudi Arabia, but have also remarkably showed their talents overseas. Faiza Ahmad Rizvi, a senior Dar Al-Hekma student, achieved a milestone when she won the award for the ‘Best Delegate' among students from all over Europe, at the Radboud International MUN Conference in the Netherlands. DAHMUN organized its first conference last year attracting over 60 delegates from all over Jeddah.
