RIYADH: Mohammed Azharuddin, former Test cricketer and current member of Lok Sabha (lower house of Indian Parliament) will be the chief guest at a function here to commemorate the 90th Founding Day of Jamia Millia Islamia. The function on Thursday will be organized by the Riyadh-chapter of the Jamia Millia Islamia Alumni Association (JMIAA). Jamia alumni living in Riyadh are celebrating the occasion with pomp and gaiety for the first time also because the New Delhi-based National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) recently restored Jamia's historic minority character. “On this auspicious occasion, I would like to extend my cordial invitation to all Jamiaets (alumni) to attend JMIAA's biggest-ever event. Mohammed Azharuddin, cricketer-turned parliamentarian will be the chief guest at this festive occasion,” said Murshid Kamal, JMIAA president. Kamal said he expects from Jamia fraternity to come forward and demonstrate unprecedented enthusiasm by attending the event in large numbers. The occasion will be reminiscent of the contributions made by Jamia founding members who sacrificed their personal aspirations for the educational and social uplift of India's Muslim community, he said.
