JEDDAH: Buoyed by their wins against SCTC-Scent (3-0) and ASTEC (3-0) Fuchs took the No. 2 spot in the semifinals of the HMX category, while SCTC-Scent secured the fourth slot by virtue of its win against ASTEC (2-1), as Jollibee feasted on its opponents in Categories C, B2 and B1/B to book all three finals berths in different categories in the men's division of the 1st Top Cup Tennis challenge 2011 – team tennis tournament. Raking back to back wins, team Fuchs secured the second spot in the point system semifinal round, with ASTEC falling first, as Benjie Usman/Danny squeaked past Froi Malapad/Lito Dare in a tie-breaker with an 8-7 win in the initial set of three. In the second set, the pair of Jovy Abella/Cocoy Clapano surprisingly sealed the match with a lot to spare by beating Roland Santos/Teody Bea in a lopsided sided 8-2. ASTEC gave up on default & the points in the third set, as the ASTEC pair of Abdullah/Azmi Jamil failed to show up against Fuchs' Eloy Torres/Marrouf. Against SCTC-Scent, Fuchs likewise scored a 3-0 win as EloyTorres/Marrouf pounded Rudy Palustre/Roy Samonte into submission on a score of 8-5 in the first set, while Jovy Abella & Cocoy Clapano proved steadier on an 8-6 winner against the Boy Urquia/Jun Amancio tandem, while Danny/Benjie Usman rode to an 8-5 victory against Erp Casilac/Rene Jamilla to complete three sets sweep that catapulted Fuchs to second rank in the semifinals. Making the cut at fourth position was SCTC-Scent as it defeated team ASTEC 2-1 in the HMX series. In other category semifinal matches, Jollibee maintained its winning streak by pocketing the final slots in different categories, while ensuring a sure Jollibee championship in the B1/B category when both its entries made it to the finals. Jollibee 4 knocked out Lacoste-JBTP 3-1 with Jun Miguel/Winston Tadeo winning via default over Michael/Ely, as Juvy Tagudin/Benny got the better breaks against Danny/Rad at 8-6. Another default won by Jollibee's Raymond Miguel/Tony Mirasol secured the first finals slot for Jollibee. In the other Jollibee match, Jollibee 5 triumphed over JIS-TC as Danny/Marrouf defeated Rey Lacsina/Bobby Ladion via an 8-2 in the first set. JIS-TC came alive in the second leg with the tandem of Eloy Torres/Tim San Gabriel winning 8-3 against Rey Diega/Ruben Macalindong, but Jollibee 5 bounced back with Erick Diaz/Dondon Alcantara overcoming Rudill Mativo/Ding Arambulo on an 8-5 tally. A walk-over on default for JIS-TC's Arnold/Rommel extended the match as Jojo Aran failed to show up for Jollibee 5 team, but Jollibee redeemed themselves in the deciding set as the Bien Villeta/Joel De Castro duo punished the JIS-TC pair of Joe Bao/Uly Bartolata with a convincing 8-3 tally to secure second finals slot that assured Jollibee a title in the B1/B event, by being pitted against another team from Jollibee. Championship games will pit Jollibee-1 against Shelter-1 in Category C, Jollibee-2 versus Shelter-2 in Category B2, Jollibee-3 against Lacoste-JBTP in Category LMX, Jollibee-4 versus Jollibee-5 in the B1/B category and Jollibee-6 against NCB in the MMX category.
