RIYADH: The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has signed two contracts with Riyadh-based Alfanar Construction for the reinforcement of Hail 2 Power Plant-Extension III and the construction of the High-Speed Harmain Railway Substations. Dr. Saleh Al-Awaji, SEC board chairman, signed the contracts valued at SR1.9 billion with Eng. Sabah Al-Mutlaq, vice chairman of Alfanar Construction last Saturday. The Hail 2 Power Plant and the third extension project will add 280 megawatts of electricity and support the existing power generation capability. The first two units of the project when operational by August 2012 will enable the future conversion of the plant into combined cycle, said the press statement issued on the occasion. The construction of 380 kV substations for High- Speed Harmain Railway project will supply power to the upcoming double-track high speed Harmain railway, it said. It will include the construction of six new 380kV substations. All six substations are expected to be completed and put into service in two years.
