LAGOS: Nigeria's ruling party has been swept out of all governorships in the southwest region, which includes the economic capital Lagos, local media reports of results from this week's polls showed Thursday. The ruling Peoples Democratic Party lost two states — Ogun and Oyo — to the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria in Tuesday's governorship elections, the reports said. The ACN has its stronghold in Nigeria's southwest, where the population is dominated by the Yoruba ethnic group and which includes Lagos, which rivals Cairo as Africa's largest city with a population of some 15 million.
