Illegal residents told to process documents to avoid prosecution RIYADH: The amnesty from prosecution for Umrah, Haj and visit visa overstayers will now be extended to Sept. 14 this year, it was announced by the Ministry of Interior, Wednesday. The previous amnesty was from Sept. 25, 2010 to March 23 this year. The ministry took the decision because many overstayers have not been able to leave the country within the timeframe of the previous amnesty period, which had been ordered by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The ministry urged all illegal residents to take the opportunity to process their documents to avoid prosecution. The ministry also warned that tough action would be taken against those who smuggle people into the country or provide them with accommodation. Penalties include confiscation of vehicles used for smuggling and for the names of violators to be published in the media.
