JEDDAH: The city of Jeddah has allocated 25.5 million square meters for public houses, in compliance with the recent Royal Order to build 500,000 housing units across the country for Saudi families, Mayor Dr. Hani Abu Ras announced Tuesday. The Jeddah Mayoralty will hand over the land plots to the Ministry of Housing to start the construction in six developed areas of the city, he said. The state-owned land was carefully selected to avoid any potential disputes with private landowners and some land has been handed over for transfer of ownership to the Ministry of Housing, he added. The areas selected for the houses are Al-Jawhara-developed land over an area of 4.5 million sq.meters in Thuwal, north of Jeddah; on a coastal area along Jeddah-Laith Highway over an area of 800,000 sq. meters, southwest of Jeddah; on an Esfan area of 1.5 million sq. meters, close the new King Abdulaziz University's new campus, north of Jeddah; on an area of 12.5 million sq. meters on Jeddah-Makkah Highway, next to the National Guard Hospital; and finally on area of 746,000 sq. meters, east of Palestine Street.
