RIYADH: The National Water Company (NWC) has won a top environmental award in Berlin, Germany, for removing sewage from a dump site in Jeddah. Lowai Bin Ahmad Al-Musallam, the company's Executive President, received the prize for the Best Environmental Project during a conference on International Water Awards for 2011. Kofi Annan, former UN chief, handed over the prize. Annan said the Board of Trustees of the International Water Awards lauded the company for the sophisticated technology used to drain the site in record time. The NWC faced fierce competition from Brazil and the US.
