KOLKATA, India: West Indian opener Chris Gayle hammered an unbeaten 102 to help Royal Challengers Bangalore defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by nine wickets while Harbhajan Singh grabbed 5-18 in MumbaiIndians' eight-run win over Chennai Super Kings in IPL matches Friday. Gayle's blistering knock helped Bangalore reach 175-1 off 18.1 overs in reply to Kolkata's 171-5. The win took Bangalore to five points from six outings with two wins and a no-result. Kolkata remains on six points with three wins from six games. In the other game between last year's finalists, Mumbai scored 164-4 and restricted Chennai to 156-9. Mumbai reached the top of the points table with eight points from five games while defending champion Chenai has only four from five. At the Eden Gardens, Gayle, playing his first match in this edition, smashed seven sixes and 10 fours off 55 deliveries. For Kolkata, captain Gautam Gambhir top-scored with 48 while Yusuf Pathan (46) and South Africa allrounder Jacques Kallis (40) were the other main contributors. At the Wankhede Stadium, Rohit Sharma slammed a 48-ball 87 to help Mumbai put up a fighting 164-4. Sharma took charge after Mumbai was struggling at 74-3 in the 12th over. In reply, Chennai was steadied by Aussie Mike Hussey's knock of 41 while Subramaniam Badrinath made a valiant 71 not out. But Harbhajan came back to stub out any late resistance with an immaculate line and length.
