GLENDALE, Arizona: The Detroit Red Wings swept the Phoenix Coyotes out of the NHL playoffs and possibly out of their hometown with a 6-3 victory Wednesday. There was a sellout crowd on hand to what many suspect will be the Coyotes last game in Phoenix before relocation, but their support could not help the team avoid going down to a 4-0 series loss. After a goal-trading first two periods came a deflating goal by Danny Cleary, who scored from behind the right post with 6:19 left to put Detroit up 4-3. Todd Bertuzzi sealed the sweep in the first-round Western Conference series less than 2 minutes later, knocking in a shot off a defensive skate, and Patrick Eaves scored his second goal on an empty net. Tomas Holmstrom and Niklas Kronwall also scored, and Detroit earned some time to recuperate before the next round with a dominating series over a team that took the Red Wings to seven games last season. The Coyotes had kept up with goals from Taylor Pyatt, Shane Doan and Martin Hanzal but left saluting the crowd at center ice in Glendale for perhaps the last time. Capitals 4, Rangers 3, 2OT: In New York, Jason Chimera scored in second overtime to complete Washington's three-goal comeback that pushed New York to the brink of playoff elimination. New York scored three times in the second period to take a 3-0 lead and seemed poised to head back to Washington for Game 5 Saturday with the series squared. But the top-seeded Capitals fought back and moved within one win of advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals. Alexander Semin started Washington's rally, and Marcus Johansson scored twice in the third to make it 3-3. The Rangers built their big lead on a goal by Artem Anisimov and tallies just 7 seconds apart by Marian Gaborik and Brandon Dubinsky. Penguins 3, Lightning 2, 2OT: In Tampa, James Neal scored the winner in double overtime as Pittsburgh beat Tampa Bay to take a 3-1 series lead. Neal gathered a loose puck along the boards and sent the winning shot past goalie Dwayne Roloson. Tyler Kennedy and Arron Asham put the Penguins 2-0 ahead in regulation but the hosts forced overtime thanks to a goal from Martin St. Louis late in the second period and another with less than four minutes remaining from Sean Bergenheim. Game 5 is Saturday in Pittsburgh. Sabres 1, Flyers 0: In Buffalo, the hosts beat Philadelphia to even their series 2-2, with Ryan Miller making 32 saves for his second shutout of the playoffs. Jason Pominville scored at 9:38 of the first period. It was Miller's third career playoff shutout and second of the Eastern Conference series after he stopped 35 shots in Buffalo's 1-0 victory in Game 1. Game 5 is Friday in Philadelphia. Ducks 6, Predators 3: In Nashville, Anaheim powered past Nashville to square the series 2-2. Game 5 is Friday night in Anaheim, with Ducks forward Bobby Ryan set to return from a two-game suspension.
