Concerted efforts are under way to tackle the dengue fever, Engineer Adel Faqih, Mayor of Jeddah, said on Saturday. Several schemes have been launched in line with the government's directives and a sum of SR350 million allocated for combating the disease will be utilized, he said. A comprehensive program to tackle environmental pollution, Arba'een and Amanam lakes, south and north Corniches respectively, will be implemented, the mayor said. Surface water draining networks are to be established at Prince Majid Tunnel, and the districts of Faiha'a, eastern Salmiyah, Jam'ah, and Briman at a cost of over SR18 million. SR40 million will be spent reforming Briman's Water Waste Processing Station, he said. Measures adopted by the mayoralty have proved feasibile in limiting pollution in Arba'een and Amanah lakes. Sixteen other lakes on north and south Corniches are being studied. A number of specialized international companies have already given demonstrations to deal with the pollution hazard. – Okaz __
