JEDDAH: Okaz Organization for Press and Publication will be holding a three-day human rights training course for journalists and private and public relations practitioners, as part of World Press Freedom Day. Dr. Hashim Abdu Hashim, former Editor-in-Chief of Okaz newspaper and Dr. Ayman Habeeb, its Acting Editor-in-Chief, are scheduled to participate in the training starting Tuesday. The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR), Makkah Region branch, has called for such training, to boost the culture of human rights in the country. The training course would be held under the title: “The media and human rights”. Participants in the training course include Dr. Muhammad Saleh Al-Dehaim, former judge at the Ministry of Justice, lawyer and legal and Shariah consultant; Dr. Hussein Al-Shareef, member of the NSHR and Supervisor General of the society's branch; Ma'toug Al-Shareef; and Dr. Saud Katib, Professor of Journalism at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. Dr. Hussein Al-Shareef, Supervisor of the NSHR branch, said the society believes the media plays an important role in helping to consolidate and boost a culture of human rights. “To practice media freedom with integrity and journalistic professionalism, according to a legal perspective, the society strives to have a partnership with media organizations and journalists in the field of training.”
