JEDDAH: The first medical treatment center for chronic diseases set up by a charity in the Kingdom, will be inaugurated Tuesday in Makkah. Dr. Yusuf Al-Othaimeen, Minister of Social Affairs, will patronize the opening ceremony of the center which belongs to the Chronic Diseases Charitable Society (Shifa). “This center aims to provide medical care to the poor patients of the Holy City. These people need urgent care and education about the dangers of such illnesses,” said Dr. Khaled Tayeb, Chairman of the Board of the Directors of Shifa. He added that the center contains different units to treat various ailments, including diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease and osteoporosis. It also has units for physiotherapy, dentistry and ophthalmology. “The treatment and medicine will be free and we will provide the necessary health supplements for patients at the same time,” said Tayeb. Shifa aims to be at the forefront of providing care for chronic diseases in the Kingdom, especially for expatriates.
