RIYADH: Prince Mit'eb Bin Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of State, Cabinet Member and Commander of the National Guard, is scheduled to honor male and female winners of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Qur'an and Sunnah Memorization Contest. The contest comes at the start of Al-Janadriya Festival activities to emphasize the concern of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for the two sources of Islamic legislation – the Holy Qur'an and the Prophet's Sunnah – and the keenness for the upbringing of children according to the guidance of Allah's Book and the Prophet's Sunnah, such that their Islamic culture is boosted to make them callers of love, justice and peace. The contest is considered to be one of the contributions of King Abdullah, which he wants to be a source of Islamic radiance in the festival's atmosphere. The contest was launched in 1991 under the supervision of Cultural Affairs in the National Guard, with the participation of the National Guard and Ministry of Defense and Aviation schools. It was expanded to include Ministry of Education schools and the religious institutes affiliated to Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University, the Holy Qur'an Institute in the National Guard and the Qur'an memorization charitable societies. In 2004, the sphere of qualitative participation was widened to cover female students. In 2005, a new branch of the contest was opened by adding the Prophet's Sunnah in order to expand the fields and the benefit from them. The regulation of the contest was issued to be a reference for organizers and participants and a base from which the contest is launched every year. A documentary book on the contest was issued in 2009.
