The King Fahd Causeway to Bahrain reopened to the public Thursday after two months of closure due to security concerns in the neighboring state. The unannounced reopening led to minimal traffic using the facility which is usually at its busiest from 4 P.M. on Wednesdays and over official holidays. Saudis constitute the vast majority of tourists visiting Bahrain, with over 200,000 using the causeway in under five days in the last Eid Al-Adha. Ninety one thousand passed through its checkpoints in one single day during that period, prompting authorities to increase the number of traffic lines on both sides of the facility to 18 lanes.
