MADINA: Two members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (the Hai'a) have been awarded compensation of SR139,000 each for the time they spent in jail following a fatal car chase. The incident occurred in Madina four years ago and led to the deaths of two men and two women. It prompted the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution to charge the two Hai'a officials with malpractice and abuse of power resulting in a sentence of 47 days in jail. The two officials took their case to the Board of Grievances which, after a year of hearings, declared them innocent and entitled to compensation for their “unlawful detention”.
