Enterprising businesspeople have always used famous people to make money, whether they are painters, singers and leaders. An entrepreneur in London appears to have latched on to an idea to make some hard cash from the tribulations of a certain Libyan dictator. “May I have one Gaddafi, sir?” I recently overheard a customer ask at a famous Turkish restaurant in London. What kind of meal is this? I asked myself. “Excuse me, what is a Gaddafi?” I asked the waiter. He replied that he did not know what I was talking about. I explained what I had overhead. The waiter laughed out loud: “Do you want a Gaddafi dessert?” he asked me and explained that the Gaddafi is the name of an Arabic dessert known as Basbosa. The restaurant renamed the sweet to attract foreign and Arab customers. The restaurant's menu described the dessert as “Gaddafi served with syrup”. The waiter told me that the restaurant had received many customers since they added the name Gaddafi to the menu. This surely proves the saying that the misfortune of some is often to the advantage of others.
