JEDDAH: The Jeddah Mayor's Office has suggested to construction developers that they carry out works in central city streets at night to avoid exacerbating traffic congestion at peak hours. Sources told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that a proposal was made for the construction work to be stepped up between 1 A.M. and dawn, and that it was first suggested in order to coincide with the half-term school holidays when traffic increases with the influx of visitors to the city. The Mayor of Jeddah, Hani Abu Ras, has requested periodical reports from construction specialists on the progress being made in the city's infrastructure works and demanded rigorous monitoring to ensure that works are completed on schedule. Abu Ras's office is currently carrying out an extensive plan to replace old road surfacing with improved modern materials, part of extensive work projects costing over SR100 million.
