Shabab thrashed visitor Emirates of the UAE 4-1 in a Group D, round three match of the Asian Champions League at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh Wednesday.
Moroccan striker Nabil Daoudi put the guests in the lead after five minutes and Guinean striker of Shabab, Al-Hassane Keita, leveled the score in the 45th minute. Keita struck again five minutes after the break to make it 2-1. In the 73rd minute, defender Hasan Mu'adh widened the lead while another defender, Abdullah Shuhail sealed the victory for the Saudi side six minutes before time.
The first half saw a relatively poor performance by Shabab players. However, the situation changed in the second half, especially after the replacements by Argentinean coach Enzo Hector.
Shabab had earlier tied with both Zobahan of Iran and Al-Rayyan of Qatar. The win lifted Shabab to the second position on the standings with five points; two points behind group leader, Zobahan of Iran, which succeeded, in another match, to win over Al-Rayyan of Qatar 3-1. Shabab hopes to qualify to the next stage seem now possible.
Elsewhere, Shanghai Shenhua and Sydney FC scored within 12 minutes then couldn't score again in a 1-1 draw in Group H.
Shanghai's Colombian striker, Duvier Riascos, scored in the sixth minute and Nicky Carle equalized for the home side in the 12th to leave both teams without a win in the competition.
Also, South Korea's Suwon Bluewings maintained top spot in Group H, playing to a 1-1 draw with Kashima Antlers of Japan. Suwon has a win and two draws for five points, three ahead of Kashima, Sydney and Shanghai.
In Group B, Esteghlal of Iran beat Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan 4-2.
In Group F, FC Seoul also remained unbeaten after three matches after a 1-1 away draw with Nagoya Grampus of Japan.
Hangzhou Greentown of China and Al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates played to a scoreless draw in the other Group F match.
Shanghai attacked from the start in the match at Sydney Football Stadium and Riascos found himself on the end of a long pass to move past Sydney's Stephan Keller and deflect his shot off defender Sebastian Ryall into the back of the net.
Sydney coach Vitezslav Lavicka lamented his side's missed opportunities after Carle's equalizer.
Sydney had not played in over a month after its March 16 match against Kashima was postponed following the country's earthquake and tsunami on March 11 that killed as many as 25,000 people.
Koji Nakata scored in the 71st minute to give Kashima its draw with Suwon. Yeom Ki-hoon scored for the Koreans in the 67th minute.
At Nagoya, Japan, Kensuke Nagai's first career goal in the 14th minute helped give Nagoya Grampus its draw with FC Seoul, also the Japanese side's first competitive match since the earthquake. A moment of silence was observed at Mizuho Athletics Stadium before kickoff.
Choi Hyun-tae equalized for Seoul in the 62nd minute.
