MADINA: Police here are investigating two cases of theft – at an archeological site of Hejaz Railways at Al-Hefaira Center and a historical military garrison which stretches back to the year 1900. The police sealed off the area Tuesday and are tracking down the gangsters who are thought to specialize in stealing relics and artifacts from archaeological sites by using sophisticated X-ray devices to detect treasures and coins hidden underground, officials said. Major General Awad Bin Saeed Al-Sarhani, Director of Madina Police, said the security authorities are tracking down the thieves. Dr. Yousuf Al-Mezaini, Director of the Tourism and Antiquities Administration in Madina, said he has no definite information about the theft incident. The archeological sites fall under the jurisdiction of the tourism administration.
