JEREZ, Spain: Champion Jorge Lorenzo leapfrogged Casey Stoner to the top of the MotoGP standings when he won an incident-packed Spanish Grand Prix Sunday after Stoner crashed out in a collision with Valentino Rossi. Spanish Yamaha rider Lorenzo, second behind Stoner at the season opener in Qatar last month, finished ahead of compatriot Dani Pedrosa on a slippery Jerez circuit in rainy Andalusia. American Ducati rider Nicky Hayden was third. Seven-time world champion Rossi of Italy had stormed from 12th on the grid to third when he attempted to overtake Stoner with 20 laps remaining. As he edged past on the inside his bike slipped from under him and the two machines collided and slid off the track. Ducati rider Rossi was able to continue and finished in fifth, while an angry-looking Stoner's race was over. Marco Simoncelli of Honda crashed when leading with 16 laps remaining and Lorenzo's American team mate Ben Spies was ahead of Pedrosa in second when he slid off into the gravel with three laps left. Italian Andrea Iannone powered his Suter to victory in the Moto2 category. Swiss Thomas Luthi, also on a Suter, finished second with Italian Simone Corsi (FTR), in third. Iannone scored his fourth career win at this level and eighth overall having started on the fourth line of the grip, reining in Luthi half way round after the Swiss had led from lap five in rainy conditions. German Stefan Bradl of Kalex failed to reproduce the form which saw him win in Qatar having qualified on pole. Twenty years ago his father, the 1991 vice world champion, won at Jerez after qualifying on pole but Bradl junior could only manage fifth. Spaniard Nicolas Terol took his Aprilia to victory in the 125cc category. Germany's Jonas Folger, also on an Aprilia, was second with Frenchman Johann Zarco, on a Derbi, was third.
