RIYADH: A recent study showed that 77 percent of a sample of Saudi university students uses Facebook, of which 50 percent use the website's pages constantly. The study, conducted by Jarih Al-Otaibi, a Master's degree student at King Saud University, stated that 98 percent of Jeddah university students use Facebook. About 68 percent of Riyadh students use the website according to the study, which said the reason for Riyadh's lower percentage is that there are less females using the Internet and social networks in Riyadh. The study found that 94 percent of the sample indicated their use of Facebook affected their usage of other media because the website offers them news, photos and videos. Those surveyed said the website helps them in their studies, exchange of information, strengthens social communication among friends and helps to display talents. However, they said it negatively affects family relationships because many use it for long periods.
