Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd, Emir of the Eastern Province, handed over medals and cash prizes to the winners of Prince Faisal Bin Fahd International Award for Arabian Sports Development Research here Wednesday. The awards were given away in two categories - research in Sports Medicine and Sports Marketing. The Award was initiated in 1983 by the late Prince Faisal Bin Fahd. The award for research in Sports Medicine was shared by Dr. Majdi Mohammad Abu Zaid and Dr. Mohammad Lutfi Al-Sayed from Egypt. They shared the $100,000 cash award that came with medal. The prize for research in Sports Marketing was shared by Dr. Ali Mohammad Abdul Majeed from Egypt, Dr. Mirvat Ibrahim Disouqi from Bahrain, Dr. Ali Abdullah Al-Jafri from Saudi Arabia, Dr. Ahmad Mohammad Abdul Salam from Egypt, and Mohammad Mustafa Ammar from Tunisia. They will share the $50,000 cash award. The prize in a third category of Professional Sports was not given away since sound researches were not available. In all 43 research papers were filed in Arabic, English and French - 22 in Sports Medicine, 12 in Sports Marketing and 9 in Professional Sports. Prince Sultan Bin Fahd, Chairman of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare (GPYW), and his deputy Prince Nawaf Bin Faisal, who is also the Chairman of the Award's Council of Trustees, attended the ceremony. Prince Nawaf announced that the next version of the award, to be handed over in 2011, will have a new look. Research in the field of technology in Arabian sports will have a cash prize of $100,000, while scientific study on hurdles in Arabian sports and means to develop it will have a prize of $150,000. Research in sport-scientific personality will carry a cash prize of $50,000.
