RIYADH: The Shoura Council and Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently discussed a draft proposal to establish a supreme commission for the small- and medium -sized business sector. According to the draft proposal the body will be tasked with sponsoring and developing the sector, which is, according to the Shoura Council's Economic Affairs and Energy Committee, one of the goals of the ninth national development plan. The meeting also discussed regulations and rules that should be provided for the commission to carry out its work. During the meeting at the Riyadh chamber, which involved members from the Shoura economic affairs and energy committee and the chamber's Small and Medium Enterprises Development Committee, discussions took place on collaboration between the Shoura and the chamber, including studies on the condition of the sector; and obstacles faced by small and medium businesses, including lack of a definition and issues related to lending and training. Dr. Muhammad Al-Jafri, Chairman of the Shoura Council's economic affairs committee, said the chamber is supporting all economic sectors, especially small and medium businesses. Members of the small and medium enterprises committee of the Riyadh chamber, during their visit to the Shoura Council last Tuesday, expressed their willingness to cooperate fully.
