Tuwaijri, Director General of the Civil Defense, has said that a national plan for the early detection of nuclear radiation has been launched in collaboration with King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology and Saudi Customs. The plan, according to Al-Tuwaijri, was initiated by Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. “The Kingdom is safe from radiation after the Civil Defense received considerable support and trained its staff in radiation and obtained the equipment required to detect it,” he said. Al-Tuwaijri also said that over 15,000 women had been trained in closed courses in fire and rescue, a scheme carried out with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education. “The courses followed the success of involving them in assisting Civil Defense officials to handle incidents at female educational buildings and other such sites,” he said. He added that “dangerous tasks” were still carried out by men only.
