JEDDAH: The security authorities have arrested two foreign workers for being involved in forging the letterheads of prominent figures to facilitate various activities including getting residence permits. The criminal activity was discovered when a vigilant policeman working at the Jeddah Passports Department became suspicious when a Pakistani man presented a signed letter asking officials to issue a resident visa for his wife. The policeman noticed the man was perspiring and was urging him to speed up the procedure. The policeman then asked him to come back after some time to get the Iqama. When the letter was checked, it was found to be a forgery. The Pakistani man was arrested when he returned to pick up the visa for his wife. After being questioned, he gave the officers all the details of his accomplice. The accomplice was kept under surveillance and police eventually raided his house where forged letterheads and stamps were found. When presented with the evidence, the 50-year-old accomplice also confessed to the crime. Brig. Al-Mesfir Al-Juaid, spokesman for the Jeddah Police, said the two Pakistanis have been charged with forgery. Investigations are under way into whether other people are involved.
