MANILA: The Talk N Text Tropang Texters crushed the San Miguel Beermen 117-93 Friday night to take the solo lead in the PBA Commissioner's Cup while virtually eliminating the Beermen, the same team the Texters whipped in six outings in the finals of the 2010-2011 Philippine Cup. The Texters extended their winning streak to six with just one loss, vaulting past the Smart Gilas Nationals (5-1), their opening game tormentors. The Beermen suffered another humiliating defeat, their fifth straight and sixth overall with just a single win. Glued to the bottom of the standings with just three games left in the elimination round, the once proud and mighty Beermen suffered the ignominy of being the first team to virtually crash out of the conference. Import Paul Harris led the Texters with 31 points while Ali Peek and Harvey Carey added 17 and 16 points respectively. David Young led San Miguel with 35 points but got little support from his teammates. In the first match of the double-header at the Araneta Coliseum, L.A. Tenorio exploded with a career-high 33 points, including two clutch three-pointers, to lead the Alaska Aces to a rousing 104-101 overtime win against the hard-fighting Meralco Bolts. The Aces won their fifth win in seven games — good for solo third in the rankings — despite losing import L.D. Williams who was ejected with less than 8 minutes left in the game after committing a flagrant foul penalty two against Meralco's Mark Cardona. Joe Devance was the other hero of the game for Alaska as he drilled six points in overtime despite playing with a second-degree sprained right ankle. De Vance finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three blocks. The win boosted the Aces' hopes of gaining one of two outright semifinal seats. It was another frustrating loss for the Bolts who appeared to have the game under control when Champ Oguchi scored a three-pointer to give them a 94-83 lead with 3:08 left in the regulation period.
