Balad Al-Ameen Company for Urban Development based in Makkah is planning to build an intercity railway network in Makkah linked to the Haramain Train. The high-speed Haramain Train development will link Makkah to Jeddah and Madina and other cities. Engineer Ahmad Al-Baloushi, the company's Executive President, said the company has already carried out a technical study of the project and started a feasibility study. He said the project will be out for tender in the third quarter of this year. He said the company takes a keen interest in development projects. Currently the company is carrying out four residential projects consisting of 15,000 residential units in Makkah, to be built over five to seven years. He said the company has selected Umm Al-Jaud District in addition to three undeveloped districts located in south Makkah, Al-Haj Street in north Makkah and Al-Rashdyia in east Makkah to carry out the residential projects. After a feasibility study is completed and given to developers for execution, the projects will help solve the housing crisis especially for lower income citizens in Makkah. The developers will sell these units to citizens on easy installments, he said.
