DHULUM: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has banned the use of the substance triclosan in cosmetics products and toothpaste. The SFDA said that studies had revealed that the substance is unsafe and can cause a reaction with chlorine in water to produce a poisonous, cancer-causing material. They also showed that the substance can cause damage to unborn fetuses. Sources have said that the SFDA has issued notices to customs authorities, chambers of commerce and private firms advising them of the complete ban on the use of the substance in cosmetics and toothpaste.
