Published in The Saudi Gazette on 25 - 03 - 2011

Officials attend a meeting in Jeddah: They are Ashish Rai Choudhury, Head of Corporate affairs and Country Head, Saudi Arabia; Emdadul HaAue, Consular ( Labor), BD Embassy; Mohammed Ramadan, GSA & TD Manager, NFS; Shahab Sattar, MD, GMG Airlines Ltd; Mohammed Amirul Islam, GM Jouf Travels; Mohammed Uzair Afzal, VP Finance-Xenel Group and Kazi Neamul Bashir, Chairman of BISES Jeddah.
JEDDAH: GMG Airlines commenced life in 1997, the idea behind its creation was to take advantage of a specific gap that existed in the Bangladesh Air Transport industry for quality oriented local airline but with a global reach.
The repeated failures of the national carrier and the ever- enhancing shares of foreign air carriers in Bangladesh market only made the country, its intelligentsia and its business community more determined than ever before to have an air carrier of Bangladeshi origin, free of state interference that could challenge the hegemony of foreign airlines and help the country to gain its rightful place on the global air transport map.
GMG Airlines, the largest private carrier of Bangladesh started its operations to Jeddah on August 8, 2010 and to Riyadh starting on November 2010.
GMG operates six weekly flights to Riyadh except Tuesday and four weekly flights to Jeddah except Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday and will start its Dammam operations very soon.
GMG operates to various international destinations beyond Dhaka like Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Karachi, Kolkota, Delhi, Dubai and Khatmandu and flies domestic destinations to Chittagong, Sylhet, Jessore, Coxs Bazaar.
Shahab Sattar, MD GMG Airlines. said during his speech that “A business is in essence its people. And a winning business must thereby have a winning team. Our goal is to excite and at the same time to provide comfort and high level of customer service. We have redesigned our services and restructured our management to bring our offerings on par with the leading standards of aviation.”
