RIYADH: A committee has been formed by Prince Dr. Mansour Bin Miteb Bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, to oversee next month's municipal council elections. Abdul Rahman Bin Muhammad Al-Dahmash, chairman of the ministerial committee, said the body reports directly to the minister. It will supervise elections which will start on April 23. The committee is tasked with carrying out the election strategy and helping specialized committees over the period. He said the committee is empowered to take all the necessary measures to make the elections a success, work out executive plans governing the elections and submit the results to the minister. He said the committee includes Jasser Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Jasser, deputy chairman; Abdullah Al-Subail; Engineer Judae Al-Qhatani, legal advisor; Muhammad Al-Muttari; Dr. Meshal Al-Selmi; Ahmad Al-Humaidi, Brek Al-Qerni; Hamad Al-Omar; Ali Al-Badr and Ahmad Al-Zaidi. He said Prince Mansour also gave the go-ahead for the formation of an executive committee, under the chairmanship of Al-Qhatani, to provide support to the ministerial committee. Meanwhile in Dammam, Municipal election planning preparations were discussed Monday by the supervising committee on municipal council elections of the Eastern Province's mayor's office. Issues included identifying election locations and public information and awareness efforts. Muhammad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Sufaiyan, Director of Public Relations at the office, said the meeting, chaired by Ibrahim Abdullatif Al-Omair, Chairman of the Local Committee on Municipal Elections, also addressed employees expected to work at the election centers. He said the meeting was attended by all members.
