JEDDAH: Prince Mish'al Bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah, ordered Thursday the National Water Company (NWC) and drainage and emergency water teams to ensure they are fully prepared to cope with any emergency situation arising from rains in the region. Abdullah Al-Assaf of the NWC said that the company had 350 water tanker trucks on standby at the Old Airport to work alongside the heavy machinery and equipment of the Civil Defense and Jeddah Mayor's Office. “The NWC has begun pumping water from some districts,” Al-Assaf said. “Not as much rain fell compared to other recent rains.” He said the company had also been instructed to address the lake in east Jeddah and that a one kilometer-long pipeline was being used to pump out water into the south-bound channel. “Work should be completed within a few days on extending the line,” he said. “The water at the lake is groundwater, not sewage.”
