JEDDAH: The Passports Department in Makkah launched a midnight raid Tuesday on a number of “suspicious” houses in Al-Bukhariya area and arrested 117 illegal aliens of different nationalities for violation of residency laws. The Passports Department carried out the raids acting on information that these houses were sheltering runaway housemaids and drivers and supplying them to others on an hourly-basis at high rates. It was found out that the houses were rented under the names of legal residents. Maj. Muhammad Al-Hussein, spokesman for the Passports Department, said those arrested were found to be living in poor conditions.
