Qahtani, President of the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR), has said the organization is working with authorities in the Kingdom to allow Saudi prisoners abroad to complete their sentences in Saudi prisons. “Intensive efforts are being made in this respect by the Saudi authorities,” Al-Qahtani said. “There are some delays in some countries, however, and they are being looked at.” He said that some delays are related to requiring “not just internal approval” for prisoner transfers. On Saudi prisoners in Arab countries which have been witnessing disturbances, Al-Qahtani said the issue was being dealt with by the embassies in the countries concerned. Saudi Gazette reported Tuesday that Saudis being held in Al-Qanatir Prison in Cairo were on hunger strike for a second day in protest at “maltreatment and poor conditions”. The prisoners, some of whom have been held in Egypt for over 20 years, have asked the Saudi embassy in Cairo to find a way for their transfer to prisons in the Kingdom.
