RIYADH: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has ordered all laboratories operating at border ports to check all consumer goods from Japan for radiation. In a notification to the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the ministry asked the council to inform all importers of Japanese consumer goods to conduct radiation tests. The ministry said that companies which certify goods should also carry out these checks. The Ministry informed the Saudi Standards, Meteorology and Quality Organization and Saudi Customs of these preventive measures to prevent radioactive-contaminated goods from entering the Kingdom. The measures come in the wake of major damage at a nuclear facility in Japan because of the recent tsunami.
