JEDDAH: “Girls of Riyadh”, the 2005 novel by Saudi writer Rajaa' Al-Sanea which attracted the attention of the world's press for its subject matter and public response, will not be made into a television series, Dubai TV has said. Head of the channel Ali Al-Ratheemi said that plans to turn the work into a “television drama” were thwarted after Al-Sanea “had second thoughts at the very last moment”. The over-300 page novel, the first by the Riyadh-born author, was translated into English in 2007 and became a bestseller with its tales of upper-class young Saudi women living in the capital. The blurb on the cover provided by the late Minister of Labor Ghazi Al-Gosaibi describes it as revealing “the exciting world of young women in Riyadh”.
