JEDDAH/RIYADH: The coastal areas of the Red Sea will be affected by active southern winds effective Tuesday, said a report by the General Authority of Meteorology and Environment Protection. These areas will be affected by sand and dust storms, which will limit visibility to one kilometer. It also expected that the temperature will jump to 42 degrees Celsius in Makkah, along with the formation of cumulonimbus thunder clouds on mountains, which will lead to the fall of medium rain starting from Tuesday evening. Cumulonimbus clouds will appear over the coastal areas which may lead to light and medium rain especially over the Laith and Qunfudha governorates.The authority has called on the users of highways, fishermen and coastal picnickers to take the necessary precautions and pointed out that it monitors and analyzes climatic changes around-the-clock. Safety warnings issued in Riyadh The Civil Defense in Riyadh has issued rain and flash flood warnings and advised the public to avoid valley zones, trips to the desert and low-lying areas. The Civil Defense also advised that people take the necessary precautions and closely follow guidance and instructions from the authorities regarding the threats posed by heavy rains. “Homes should be checked to ensure they are safe from rains, water drainage systems should be clear, and no one should leave home in the event of heavy rains unless absolutely necessary,” the Civil Defense said. “Take extra caution when driving, stay away from wires and electricity points, and avoid open places and using mobile telephones during lightning.” The public was further advised to not erect tents in low lying areas and to not risk crossing flood waters. “Wait until the danger has receded, keep a close eye on children at all times, and do not permit swimming in areas of water which may contain mud and clay,” the warnings said.
