RIJAL ALMA': Civil Defense teams have managed to control a chemical spill from a giant tanker carrying 25 tons of caustic soda after it veered off the road and overturned on Asir's Jeddah-Jizan Road Saturday. Muhammad Alasimi, spokesman for the Civil Defense in Asir, said the tanker carried sodium hydroxide and belongs to a private company. It hit a lamp post. The Sri Lankan driver, who was trapped inside the driver's cabin, was pulled out with slight injuries. The area around the accident was barricaded with sand and cooled with water. He said committees from the Mayor's Office, environment protection authority and other bodies examined the scene for any possible damage to the environment.
