DAMMAM: A prison brawl has resulted in 14 persons each being sentenced to 50 lashes of the whip and seven days' cleaning duty on their cell blocks. The 14 ended up before a judge at the District Court in Qatif after an argument between two inmates at Qatif Prison developed into a mass confrontation and fist-fight. A court source said the inmates had been close to completing the sentences they were already serving when the fight broke out, but the judge refrained from prolonging their terms and instead granted them “alternative sentences”, which include cleaning duties for two hours a day at the prison blocks they inhabit. “They expressed their deep regret for what they did, and were satisfied with the sentences they were given,” the source said.
