DHAHRAN: During the recent devastating flood in Jeddah, some 2,500 youth, who are members of the Youth Teams of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) from Jeddah, Taif and Makkah, were in the frontline supporting flood victims until the government completed the rehabilitation of the affected areas. “The WAMY Youth Teams, a support group composed of young Saudi volunteers, were there in the disaster areas during the flood crisis doing all kinds of volunteer work to help ease the suffering of citizens and residents affected by the flood,” said Mustafa Ahmed Khird, supervisor of the WAMY Youth Team Division. “Our boys are ready to extend help to those in need in times of crisis, like natural disasters, and to help poor people anywhere in the world,” Khird said. During the Jeddah flood, the 2,000 members of the Jeddah WAMY Youth Team were supported by youth teams from Taif and Makkah who fielded over 400 members. The Youth Team was established more than two years ago to extend all kinds of support to citizens. It is also an active partner with government agencies in helping the poor and victims of disaster. “We have also gone global in helping disaster victims and providing aid to those in need; we have extended support to people in Indonesia and Lebanon,” said Khird. The WAMY Youth Teams are showcasing their services at the ongoing Volunteering Exhibition at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) being held under the patronage of Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd, Governor of the Eastern Province.
