RIYADH: Mobily (Etihad Etisalat), as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), has furnished houses of over 1,500 people devastated by the recent Jeddah floods with essential household items worth more than SR2 million. Mobily executed the charity work in collaboration with the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY). Engr. Khalid Omar Al-Kaf, Mobily's CEO and Managing Director, said his company has joined hands with government efforts to ameliorate the suffering of flood victims in Jeddah. “Mobily is part of Saudi society and we want to support the flood victims. Under the CSR activity, it is our responsibility to help to mitigate the suffering of people and see them prosper. Our effort based on Islamic teaching is to reach out to people in adversity,” Al-Kaf said in a press statement. He said the contribution made by Mobily is part of CSR efforts by the private sector that plays a major role when natural disasters hit the country. “Mobily has donated home furniture and appliances for Jeddah flood victims. The company provided television sets, refrigerators, air conditioners and other household items for families who lost their belongings during the recent floods,” Al-Kaf said. Dr. Mohammed Badahdah, WAMY Secretary-General, expressed his appreciation for the initiative taken by Mobily to help Jeddah flood victims. “Mobily's humanitarian gesture clearly shows the company is keen to reach out to people in need,” he said. He said the grief stricken people of Jeddah will not forget the remarkable assistance offered by a private sector company like Mobily and that others should be encouraged to come forward and help the needy in society. Mobily has also provided 150 mobile phones with SIM card connections. Moreover, routers for Internet connections, 2,000 handbags, laser printers and laptops were also donated to help charity workers and volunteers carry out their humanitarian work in cooperation with the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a number of other charities.
