CHICAGO: Ryan Johnson, Dave Bolland and Patrick Kane scored in a 4:32 span early in the third period to break open a tight game as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 on Friday to extend their season-high winning streak to seven games.
Jonathan Toews and Bryan Bickell scored in the first period for surging Chicago, which led only 2-1 after 40 minutes. Toews has goals in four consecutive games, scoring six times and adding two assists in the span.
Marian Hossa, Patrick Sharp and Chris Campoli each had two assists to help the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks pull ahead of Los Angeles and Phoenix for fourth place alone in the tight Western Conference standings. Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner scored for the Hurricanes.
Devils 2, Penguins 1, OT: At Newark, New Jersey, Ilya Kovalchuk scored on a power play with 24.9 seconds left in overtime as New Jersey continued their remarkable playoff push with a victory over Pittsburgh.
The goal was the second straight winner for the $100 million man, his sixth in the last 12 games and his ninth of the season. New Jersey won for the 19th time in 23 games (19-2-2).
Rangers 4, Senators 1: At Ottawa, Derek Stepan had a goal and an assist, and Mats Zuccarello and Artem Anisimov scored 12 seconds apart in the second period as New York beat Ottawa to end a three-game losing streak.
Flames 4, Blue Jackets 3: At Calgary, Alberta, Miikka Kiprusoff became the first goalie in 25 years to stop two penalty shots in a game and finished with 37 saves, leading Calgary past Columbus.
Ducks 4, Stars 3, OT: At Anaheim, California, Defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky completed his second three-goal game in the NHL on a power play with 3.8 seconds left in overtime, and Teemu Selanne scored the tying goal with 1:03 remaining in the third period in Anaheim's victory over Dallas.
