JEDDAH: Mayor of Jeddah, Dr. Hani Abu Ras, Sunday launched a service to fast-track construction permits for building villas and residential buildings. Abu Ras said permits will be processed and delivered to applicants in two days, adding that he was confident of the continued cooperation between engineering offices and the Mayor's Office. To obtain a permit an applicant should contract an approved engineering office to carry out the design and engineering maps in accordance with official construction terms and conditions. The designs are then uploaded to the construction permits' electronic system and referred to a Mayoralty-endorsed consultative engineering verification office, where they are examined to ensure compliance. If there is a need for modifications, or the required documents are missing, then the application is sent back to the design office for amendments and then to the consultation office. Thereafter the application is approved, sent again to the design office for payment of fees, the printing of the permit and handover to the applicant.
